2022-10-30 A Meditation on Speech and Heart
“[B]ecause, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Ro 10:9 ESV)
All things are delightful, and the Word is unsullied, when chosen speech, gleeful testimony, ready mind is announced. That is, we hear and we worship. We hear this-or-that thinking. We have the heart whet by acknowledgement. In all this, we go further than the simple outlay of good speech: we let a Living Father and Son and Holy Spirit inspire and change our heart this day.
For over chosen words we mull and delight, yet the unseen God, the higher power, the sense of staking claim: In Christ, no less, heart moved, mind alight, change a living dynamic or a restful repose. We change, if it is God’s will, and we rest and delight, if likewise it is His will. In all this, the notion is celebrated: you are in Christ; I am in Christ; together we announce a great host, and anatomical precision as to hearts transformed.
For it is warming and copacetic to proclaim God a Good Father. It is hearkening unto a Vision stance, a Forward Calm and Sensitivity, a Ground Rules acknowledged; we allow such resuscitation, resurrection, reward, this day to inhabit our hearts, not just our vocalized testimony. For, we are creatures of tongue and speech ever since God created using words, and ever since Man was confused because of His proud words to his peer in the story of the Tower of Babel. Therefore we are those who go soup to nuts, hearts living and pride gone limpid in the Light of an energizing and all-consuming Host called Lord, in our hearts, in our minds, before us and behind us, above and below us. We were proud and lofty in thought, in grand designs of what our Good Lord is up to, until it turned out He was up to us. He was up to a prayerful time spent in basic friendship and fellowship. He was up to reckoning with His own private timeline, and the passage and travail unto His Cross.
So we let words, like salve to the soul, inhabit and suture our wounded soul. We turn over a new side of ourselves. We are no longer down for the count, hardened by pride. We have basked in Good Language and Inspired, speech, speech hearkened to. Hey, this sounds right. This puts God back in the driver’s seat. This is time and patience as an outlay for meek and simple us.
So we do assess our testimony, as being more than words, more that that way all of us warms to copacetic, friendly speech. We do warm and salute such language, but only because it has paid dividends in our heart. Only because to speak of Lord Jesus is to recognize a heart living and whetted by actual experience and je ne sais quois sensitivity unto His outlay and His decision to Give to us peace and sacrifice, until we were held and song moistened on our lips and pride curled up as though patient and hearing as though by the fireside. So this day we are New Creations, and rally around good definitions of what it means to be “In Christ” and what it consists of to stake claim in a change that undoes ill nature, living into higher habits and surrounded by a God who loves us no matter our simplicity of thought nor our basic status as creatures of love.
In this we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Ro 8:37). In this we are all that much stronger for the sake of pinning our hopes in each other, that is, in a Jesus who was with us in the trenches and in the battlefields of life. So we do remember Him thus, and strange thought and ecstatic vision is no cause for shame but a reckoning with what good intentions are directed our way. We experienced, and therefore our talk is a bookmark and placeholder to such experience. We are not more “sophisticated”, only we are speaking from experience, and long just for good thought and word to distill fruit in the hearts of those who hear: “Jesus saved me; do you hear a call this day for Him to save you?”
