2024-08-06 A Meditation on the Power of One
“11 Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience. 12 We are not commending ourselves to you again but giving you cause to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast about outward appearance and not about what is in the heart. 13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.” (2 Cor 5:11-15 ESV)
Lean on me, lean on you: life’s lessons are that each individual has the power to be a locus, a load-bearing mechanism, a tree “blooming where it is rooted”, a Cause and a christ, as in Anointed Ones. Spectacular the progeny of any one soul, and equally spectacular the wide-awake and Alert patient growing up into the boots assigned to us. We somehow rest easy on the frontline. We somehow cease to feel so cooped up by expectations that we dare not tip the bucket. We somehow Accept, Christ as a carpenter and we His people as of gladsome exchange, to be the Church, to be the Brotherhood and Sisterhood, to allow the tectonic ripples of one knee knelt before the Throne.
Each individual soldier is in their fatigues of Watchfulness and Scope Believed Upon: we believe upon the scope of what the un-depressive Winsome Spirit sees and gravitates towards and fights spiritual battles tempting away from. God is not content with one blessing, but in Christ gave us umpteen blessings on franchise, consignment, Promise for the Ages. Paul was “filling up in his body what was lacking in Christ’s sacrifice for the church”; we might, rather, be flipside Christians who are so raw and familiar with their own hearth before the Lord, that they gladly grin and serve up a Blessing to someone new or take the societal trust fall; for these things we are grateful, and acknowledge that social trust, acknowledge the importance of fighting against blaming the victim, acknowledge the raw desire gestured in our direction, as a fraudulent or socially taken-advantage of the basic trust and the common contract.
Life’s lessons are of a shared Trust, our spirits each of us a product of things that a spy would long to see into; we are Created and Shaped, Formed and Built Up, to have some brand of disposition, nervous or confident, gladsome or cautious. We each of us learn who each other is, through this basic Contract and Exchange; we are then Capable to think like so-and-so. This thing is a mystery.
The plain truth is that wild Potency is discovered, by some, with blessing upon blessing (“God, I don’t need anything more!”; and for others with a single still small voice, a lost coin found, a stolen ewe lamb restored. Potency to counteract that self-critical voice that says, “Where were you in the hour of Presentation, in the social gathering, in the One-Off chance to make some amendments and announce some change of life, to honor those slighted, to make Something positive?”
We each of us Learn and Believe in Heaven-sent efficiencies, wherein a thorn in our side may be given to keep us from too-great an elation, where that hour of reverie may not lose sight of that hour more bleak. We believe in One Event that ripple-effects through our lives, one Friendship that is worth All Things, one Reason to give ourselves up unto that Service of a wise counselor On High.
