A Meditation on Spirit-Led

2023-06-25 A Meditation on Spirit-Led

“4 I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, 5 that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— 6 even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— 7 so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1 Co 1:4–9 ESV)

Shaped for the expedition, there is a deep sense of tutelage by the Holy Spirit. We use this Name cautiously: Holy Spirit is a death-defier, and is a reckoning, a judgment day, to all standard thought. But as we use this Name we believe a course is charted, molded is the journey, and all things needful are demonstrated unto us. We learn what is meant by a “rich person’s” foibles: that those comfy and secure may be more prone to depression or ennui. That panic attacks may be found in one stage of life but not in another. That all these things are shown unto us so that we might sit in the steadied ship, calm through the storm, prepared for all good things including what regrettable things the day does bring.

The expedition therefore is beneficiary of a theology of Provision, of Tutelage, of Patience, and of Sonship. There is Meaning: some Pattern, some Sanity, some Fellowship with one another. We are abuzz with the Good News: that God is for us, that miracles are but a foreshadowing of a Divine storyline and Kingdom Now. And how can we glean all this from that Old Rugged Cross? Because our Expedition has taken the Kool-Aid and allowed a focus on small things—Jesus’ lonesome death—as prying open big things.
