A Meditation on Onward

2025-04-05 A Meditation on Onward

“11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” (Heb 4:11-13 ESV)

The catch-up game meets Onward: never settling for equanimity alone, never settling for historical revisionism as though all were copacetic and silenced by the awesome nature of the Just Getting By. We probe and lance Onward. We strike a course made Familiar and Agreeable. We hearken to a morality, a sphere most salutary, a Determination to cleanse and be rather uptight about Principles.

Only that Deeds wrought in the spirit, in the flesh, in the mentalism are deeds rather ignored, underappreciated, wispy and curious to the crowd: on what, after all, do we base our confidence if not on a Notion of Christ Resurrected? And this requires some bolstering, some buttress, some Experiential pact made with the brothers and the sisters: of such-and-so are our platonic desires towards each other’s companionship. Of this-and-more are our Bond, our Pact, to forget all the guilt-tripping and the finger-pointing, and to lance forth Christian and Inspired. To lance forth Composed and Confident. To lance forth Ready and Able.

No time to fuss over all life’s troubles that we weren’t able to address: we had this Goodness writ into our being, over a day’s labors and a gladsome day’s end’s rest. We were Good Folk, after all, and forged in a furnace, on a crucible, in a fomenting volcano. We are curators of ourselves, of our own retrospectives and curious lightness of touch, to see the Self Trained Up, the Self made over, the self Educated and reactive: a mighty lesson in a two-hour span of our life that formerly was so easy to walk away from. We have Taste and Preferences for the Knowledge being professed: teach us up, O Lord! Teach us, through your servants the prophets and the teachers. Teach us, that we may marvel and dig curious at our own Newness of Being, Patterned Behavior, Reactive and Prophetic third realm occupants.

The game of catch-up, then, is to assess just “how we’re doing” in some fully honest appraisal of how easily in a former life, we went for the ignominy, the self-ruin, the hazarded “insane” venture. And we must confess, that today we are still “living on a prayer”, some experiences having made prophets out of these old steeds and friends and selves: prophets whose utterances are scorned. Prophets whose alacrity is dismissed, yawned over, or even brought to combative response. Only this: do we have what few prophets have, an aping measurable sign of Sanity? Of Relevance? Of yes many mistakes that only further humble the soul, but at what expense, the Truth that is therein now Revealed. Revealed in the prophetic third realm, something we ourselves don’t “own”, something we ourselves scarcely can contain, and cannot manipulate nor handle any more adeptly than we handle the wild-eyed scream of a Resurrection Morning.

So as to that Education: we see stark immovable objects meeting stark immovable objects, and we understand there is much unmeasured, unreported on, unpublicized, as to how and why entities move and foment as they do. And we believe: in a more peaceful give-and-take on some fronts, you’re a sinner, I’m a sinner, but this much we share: that we met Christ, that we in any case have a natural affinity for each other, perhaps from a good word spread early, a good report, a fine assessment. The strangest bed-fellows now form. The strangest explanatory sociologies form: the average Joe or Jane knowing deep secrets as to why and how the world is careening as it does, and knowing how and why his or her role in it comes about. So we are religious about a Person, about People, about Mentalism and Spirituality. We are religious about lightning strikes that go viral, that spread like a holy murmur on the P.A. system, that overcome what otherwise would later spell battle lines most distressing and sad, of warring tribes and non-negotiables, things unforgivable, Differences inchoate and blasphemous against all that is Right, Holy, and True. So we listen to the youthful voice. We laugh and smile at the would-be prophetic personage. We wonder and praise the Lord for our life this day. For He has a plan.
