A Meditation on Inadequacy

“18 While he was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” 19 And Jesus rose and followed him, with his disciples. 20 And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, 21 for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” 22 Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well. 23 And when Jesus came to the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, 24 he said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. 25 But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. 26 And the report of this went through all that district. Jesus Heals Two Blind Men 27 And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” 28 When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” 29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be done to you.” 30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, “See that no one knows about it.” 31 But they went away and spread his fame through all that district. Jesus Heals a Man Unable to Speak 32 As they were going away, behold, a demon-oppressed man who was mute was brought to him. 33 And when the demon had been cast out, the mute man spoke. And the crowds marveled, saying, “Never was anything like this seen in Israel.” 34 But the Pharisees said, “He casts out demons by the prince of demons.” The Harvest Is Plentiful, the Laborers Few 35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”” (Mt 9:18–38 ESV)

Poised somewhere none the closer to All-Out success and none the closer to Utmost Failure, inadequacy, feelings of forlorn failure, desire for Elevation and Promotion… when the curtains are pulled back, will we be found In Him? In Christ? Contented and Pleased, to be neither perfect nor deadrot, but to find our rightful Striving?

The Christian soldier has a Litmus Test, a Judgment Presenting, an Apocalypse Foretold: that the Rumblings of War poise and Challenge, do Bring Out and Accelerate the inner man, inner woman, to Rise Up, to meet our personal Best via that headlong Contretemps and Dispute, dialog and passing of the peace, Certain that nary a thing shall separate us from the Love of Christ.

Strange days spell wondrous Ping Pong and back-and-forth of the Spirit, spiritual prospects for those who are spiritual. Spiritual lambasting and wildly prophetic Urgent all-hands Calling, Composure, Christian Effort.

Despite all the rage, are we still just rats in a cage? The experimental prospects never humiliate nor patronize the Agent, field officer, intel worker and handler of numerous Assets, because though twenty-four-seven Monitored by both Satan and Jesus, we are still monitored in a servant mindset, as Live Ammo and Real Game Day vistas. It is, all things told, up to us. We have to Lead and Fight and Encourage and Dispel satanic humors. We all of us have to Embrace that dualism, either we are veering satanic, or veering Christ-like, nothing yet suggestive of utmost Failure, suicide, despair, but nothing yet Preventing the fall from grace except that Once Made Always Made, Christ don’t make no junk, we have innate in us Moral Compass and Composure, Certainty unfoiled, unproblematic, non-error-prone, Moral and of Titular duty to the name of Christian.

And the feeling of inadequacy, everyone feels it, especially when—fess up, you Wanted the best prizes in life—we literally receive double what we asked for. That is a fine portrait of Judgment Day: sure, O Saint, O Sinner, you can be promoted “in the Christian edifice, Christian agency”, but don’t then go complaining to me how Inadequate you feel for the post! Confess your self-justifying claims of inadequacy, and Boldly lance forth, fly into the Horizon, devil-may-care because no time either to dispute “I’m so perfect” or “I’m utterly failing”. Somewhere in-between is the truth, and that veil is torn away to Reveal: God the Father must rule with an iron fist, because I am certain there is an element of Dissent in the Agency. In the Christian Agentic agency, homebase for so many stripes of officers and militant minds, hardworking boots on the ground, justices of the peace and security men and women, swooping in because Time is almost Nigh for gymnasiums, school gymnasiums, to be filled with sleeping cots in lines and arrays. Time is almost nigh for people to imagine then implement a little perimeter and huddle together through the storm, make the jobs of the Protector, the Holy Spirit who watches over, Psalm seventeen and more, easier.

Already the prayer circles, the perimeter surrounded by lines of Warriors of Prayer, hands clasped in unity, in Oneness, in Beheld Concern: our Mark, our Center of the Circle, in her or his hands are Cause for millions of lives, tens of lives also just as cared over, based on Decisions Made. Based on the impromptu Self-Identification in the warroom backroom ad hoc Television Studio or simple Dialog over a smart phone centered on the table and recording or broadcasting for posterity. We are all of us Evading and Escaping banal Existence, middling ranks, with the Knowledge of Game Day. We are Everything and Fully Plugged in, to Tomorrow’s War, because there is no longer time to covet higher rank or more utilization: we are utilized unto Perfection, falling into the evening’s loving embrace of a Father who we can’t see but who Dwells Above, once seen, hidden in the crevice of the rock but Seen. What more can we ask, then both to be Utilized and to be Free-Dealing. And systems theory, organizational behavior: wouldn’t it be nice if so-and-so was likewise Elevated, but no, it falls to us to forward the email or to write the Recruitment email, or make the recruitment Drive. Always, each community can set up—with authorization—their Local Authority most sublime and soup-to-nuts.
