2022-11-21 A Prayer: A Sanctuary
O Lord, please sign your Name to a sanctuary particular to each of us; give us that miracle-bred motherly sanctuary, a place wide and deep, where any hangups are addressed directly with plain Love. See us humored; see us charging forth like young bucks; see us with all stodgy, heavy, churchiness is lightened; where the so-called impossible Rules are made into love story around us. Not a fussiness about us, either, but a place plain and simple to launch forth, not obsessed or too introspective, but part of the equation and at work, in delightful work, in work that hearkens to our innate good sense and desire. So cultivate that our desires be all Holy and Purposeful.
Please help us in the face of churchiness that comes across as imposing, as peculiar to a sycophant whom we don’t quite “like”, as peculiar to those without backbone, falsely submitted, hypocritical, sell-outs, false judges, and so on.
See the motherly goodness of a classroom where we are eager and unpessimistic, either student or teacher. See the goodness of a firm where we are useful and indispensable, that celebrates each other, that gives us heartfelt thanks in season. See much on the line where we are unitarily heroic, as soldiers, as a great host or company where each is doing life-on-the-line indispensable work. See the not-one-absent company of soldiers, where we are able to serve in holy guise, stepping up, given over to service.
So gratify us in the warmth of selfless sacrifice, of something that overcomes that prick in our heart of self-loathing or impossible coping mechanisms; see us care not about that cynical voice any longer, because we are poised and forward and getting down to business: in the classroom, in the firm, in the company. So lighten our loads, we pray this hour, to speak plainly when asked, that it is a rare but True storyline that cultivates each of us, You rare but True Lord who Created sanctuary for each of us, getting down to business and hearkening to plain cogent familiar abodes. We thrive. We reside Here and Now. We bear no longer the weight of regret or inimical spirits, those who accuse or stay uptight and frustrated, blaming others. No longer blamed, we celebrate the Great Company of this great desire You have to make us over in this very life, as the inheritors of success and of usefulness and of service.
We pray all this in Your Name, Amen.
