“12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. 16 Only let us hold true to what we have attained. 17 Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. 18 For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” (Php 3:12–21 ESV)
Parrying with mind control spirits most evil, waves of Goodness are the counter-punch. Yes, strange hypnoses and automated suggestibility, parries because Judgment intervened earlier than we expected: the lines of our lives may be set in pleasant places (Psalm 16) but already the cadence is set, the dance is underway sublimely, the fright zones have laid purchase to bodies and souls and minds; it would take a Miracle to snap out of it.
A Miracle to Careen out of the hypnotized dance and land all helter-skelter and harried in Salvation Camp. More, the Incriminating Spirit takes all the blame: it was Accusation and Judgment most undivine, purely human and errant, that quipped with us in ways we ought to have Rejected. That we were unworthy of Christ’s Love. That we were undeserving of the Father’s love. Mercy, that we were unreceptive to the Spirit’s love. Forgiveness, mercy: that we had to play a more balderdash and hectic Game, forgetting Christ’s Rest is not only salutary but is Needful and something even to Boast In: no, O sinner, you do not need to carry your own Cross any longer.
More, we stretch out and bask in an Inerrant Spirit Above, a Father in Heaven who goes mode Large and with largesse and gravitas, with actionable and illustrious Spirit, with reaching and ambient Peace, does Enhance and Enable and Engage the supplicant. The supplicant, it is strange days to go Beyond contract and Accusation, and to be glib and compliant as Children in the Master’s Nursery, in His cradle, under His mobile, with His Forgiveness around all we giggle and coo about. We are forgiven like an adolescent who in awkward ways is Manifesting unconstrained Sin, yet to the loving Gaze of parenthood, is Promising of Future Healings, Future Acceptance of Mercy, Future Inspired Headship.
Then to those contrarian spirits, eugenics of many stripes and final solutions of myriad new forms: plutocracies and witch’s covens of Abuse; it was after all a Victory eeked out in no taken-for-granted Way. We gladly pontificated on things subtle and divine, but forgot how Close to Error every one of us is. Every one already in lockstep, cadence with Judgment Day: entire states or countries Damned, perhaps; only we Believe in things unmanifested in formal legality or reason, logic or design: that God both allots Damnation to a state, while simultaneously making them First in the Kingdom, at least some precious Few found therein. Never get boastful around your own blessedness: the pig-pile will take straight to the top the most Accused and Harmed in the milieu. People will fall out of sinful orbit, and crash-land on Earth and on a Saved Stretch of burnt over land: land that would be subject to a forest fire, now already inoculated and burnt over: rest for the weary, Gladsome reminders we hold these truths secret in Heart, that we are not the sinful masses, but are of innocent repartee and gameday play.
