A Meditation on Time and Space

2023-04-18 A Meditation on Time and Space

“I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day.” (2 Ti 1:3 ESV)

The plaintive cry of help me is heard across eons of time and space. It is the language that Jesus taught us, the certainty of something divine, mystical, and worthy carrying our learned language through time and space, to a forebearer in the faith, to the side of Jesus, to Abraham and the matriarchs and patriarchs; to people who care.

More than who care, who race to the scene of the injury. Who know this to be their place in the world, to speak a word heard in eternity, because it is a word full of care for that one who is forlorn. That one who is up against a wall. That one who has reached the end of their tether. That one, in short, who thought all language was just modern-day convenience, was just a fluff of egoism, speech being proud, vainglorious, futile. No, there is mystical spark that carries such words through those eons. It is a sense that we have tapped into the very mechanics of time and space. It is a sense we, in humbling ourselves, are once and for all captivated by God’s Spirit, outfitted for the journey ahead, remade and reworked mightily in Divine wisdom, as helmets and tanks of Purpose. We become the vanguard of a mighty working of the Spirit, and all this without ever losing sight in this life of that thorn in the side (2 Co 12:7).

For someone Cares. Someone is in the business of wise counsel, patient hearing, longed-for prayer. Someone out there, for them, it means all the world just to know of a voice through the ages, come down to us. Some future species of Man, who needs to know something that no evolutionary advantage can mitigate; we are not the cynical purveyors of a doctrine of man’s ineptitude ultimately, of man’s inability to coach and relate to a future evolved species. No, we see Capacity, Ability, and Relevance for the entire legion and fortress and army of people here and now, or there and then, back through the ages, forward unto singularity, unto a point of Divinity reckoning with sinful Man.
